A graphics card often costs more than the rest of the PC. Before buying a new one, it pays to know what has actually failed. At the workshop we test the card, measure its power circuits and track down the faulty part: a fan, a connector, a burnt component. Many of these faults can be fixed for a fraction of the price of a new card. If the fault is on a part we don’t repair, we tell you at the diagnosis stage. We’re happy to help in English.
What we repair
- Noisy, stuck or broken fans: fan replacement
- Overheating and performance drops in games: cleaning, new thermal paste and thermal pads
- Melted 12VHPWR or 12V-2x6 power connector: connector replaced on the card
- Ripped or dead HDMI or DisplayPort output: port replacement
- Card that won’t power on or shuts the PC down: short-circuit tracing, MOSFET, capacitor and fuse replacement
- Corrupted card BIOS after a failed update: reflashing, depending on the model
What we don’t do
We don’t reball the graphics chip (GPU) and we don’t replace memory chips (VRAM). On-screen artifacts (checkerboards, lines, coloured dots) often come from there, but not always: overheating, a driver or a power fault can look exactly the same. The diagnosis settles it. If the fault is in the memory or the GPU itself, we tell you before any repair work and you decide what happens next.
Before you drop off your card
- Write down what happens: black screen, artifacts, crashes in games, burning smell, noise
- If you can, test the card in another PC or with another power supply
- Melted connector: don’t plug the card in again, and bring the cable too, it is often damaged as well
- Still under warranty? Claim it with the seller or the manufacturer first: a third-party repair may void it
How the repair works
- Book a slot and drop off the card, or the whole PC, at Rue de Bruxelles 27 in Verviers
- Sending it by post is possible on request: contact us before you ship anything
- Diagnosis: tests, measurements on the board and tracing the faulty part
- Detailed quote: nothing is repaired without your approval
- Repair, then a load test before you get the card back
Laptop graphics
In a laptop, the graphics chip is soldered to the motherboard. Power, connector and overheating faults are then handled as a motherboard repair: see our electronics and motherboard repair page.
The workshop is at Rue de Bruxelles 27, 4800 Verviers, by appointment. We also serve the towns around Verviers, from Liège to Eupen and Malmedy. Need it in French? Read the French version.
Frequently asked questions
How much does a graphics card repair cost?
It depends on the fault. A fan or a clean with new paste and pads costs far less than a 12VHPWR connector or a short-circuit hunt. You get a quote after the diagnosis and decide from there.
How long does it take?
Maintenance or a fan swap usually takes a few days. If a part has to be ordered, the lead time is in the quote.
Do you repair NVIDIA, AMD and Intel cards?
Yes, whatever the board brand (ASUS, MSI, Gigabyte, Zotac, Sapphire, PowerColor…). The diagnosis tells you what can be repaired on your model.
My card shows artifacts. Can it be fixed?
Sometimes. If the cause is heat, power or the driver, yes. If it is the memory or the GPU itself, we tell you: we don’t do reballing or VRAM replacement.
Can I send my card by post?
Yes, on request. Call 087 11 10 28 or email info@mk-it.be with the model and the fault before shipping anything: we’ll tell you whether it is worth sending and how to pack it.
